Nice, rappers back then weren’t just nameless nobodies… Since there was only like 20 rappers an no underground/mainstream divide you were guaranteed quality.

Ciph you did it again. Straight heat!
The thing that made Doo Wop a monster in the mixtape game was not just that he had freestyles but who he had. He got respect so everyone wanted to get on. And cats brought their A game. He would mix cats from his crew the Bounce Squad right along side stars and the results were HOT!!! You could catch Q-Tip and Jay Z on the same tape. Tek and Steele would be on the same tape with Fat Joe. My favorite was 95 Live.

Daaamn Ciph you went on this one right here! (pause)…Major drop bringing me back to Fresh. Yr of High School – it’s crazy how the mixtape game has changed over the years but good to listen to these joints and reminesce when artists actually went in and tried to showcase ability on freestyles trying to up the ante on each other instead of just being predominantly featured on one DJ’s tape (but I still got love for Drama, Green, Skee, etc.) lol.
