JUAN EPSTEIN-ish: 10/8/08 – Discovering Paul C.

Earlier this week on our Juan Epstein Podcast, we put up an interview with Large Professor, one of the greatest Hip Hop producers of all time. During the interview he kept mentioning the guy who taught him how to make beats, Paul C. Since then I have been asking around to find out more about him. I didn’t realize this guy did so much shit.
I am lucky that I work in the same building as Funkmaster Flex, Mr Cee, DJ Red Alert, and Chuck Chillout, and am able to gather up old school knowledge from people who experienced it first hand. I knew all of this guys stuff but didn’t know who he was. Big shout to “Illmatic602″ who told me about a blog post on Paul C and big up to “Sosa” who actually sent it to me.
Well in case you don’t know about Paul C here’s a rare video of him performing with his rock band before he became a Hip Hop producer. He’s the one playing the bass guitar.
And here’s some other stuff:
Paul C story from Big Daddy Magazine
Read Paul C’s discography
Download Super Lover Cee & Casanova Rud “Do The James” mp3
Download “Paul C Lives” mix

I have that Big Dady magazine from the UK it was a dope magazine. I’m familar with Paul C through the work he did with Ultramagnetic. He was a genius it’s crazy he gets over looked in the history of hip-hop. It was great to hear Large Pro on the show thats a stand up dude.I’m about to download this Paul C joint……man you really do look out. Good look

big up’s to Large Pro for first standing for good music and keeping Paul C name alive. This is how you keep Hop Hip alive by remembing and horoning the everday person who is not looking for the spot light.
Queens stand up, lic a shot one time !!!!!

im seriously about to get gassed after seeing my name on ciph’s blog lol, anyway just wanted to say i agree with restlove – Large Pro seemed like a real humble dude and so refreshing to hear someone doin it for the music not the dough. Thats why Hip-hop is dead beacuase when u start doin stuff for money u lose that spark, one one hand u cant knock the hustle but it def making a diference.
I also think this is kind of a landmark moment for Juan Ep, after the near break up; quality episodes and ciph’s then interaction has raised the bar . To me Rosenberg and ciph go well together and no diss but are nowhere near as good when seperate, for example rosenberg can be annoying when alone and the morning show was boring when he went on holiday . Just my thoughts and big up To PMD for his part in the return to greatness

@ Ciph & Listeners: Since you are not hookin a young London son up with a job maybe you can help with this………
I need a 24 artist/album list tracking Hip-Hop “Classics” from Run DMC to present day.
So far my list is:
Run DMC(Raising Hell)
Public Enemy(Takes A Nation)
Tribe(MM or ?)
Beastie Boys(Best Of)
De La Soul(3ft)
Naughty By Nature(Best Of)
NWA(STC)
Nas(Illmatic)
Jay-Z(RD)
Wu-Tang(36)
2Pac(All Eyes On Me)
Biggie(RTD)
Snoop(Doggystyle)
Eminem(Slim Shady or Marshall Mathers)
Jay-Z(Blueprint)
50 Cent(GRODT)
KanYe(College Dropout)
The Game(Documentary)
Common(Be)
Lupe(Food)
Lil Wayne(Carter III)
I need 3 more or ideas for who to replace……….I also need it to be commercial as it is for the record store I work at……I dont really consider Carter III a “classic” but this is also on sales. Should Luda, Outkast, T.I, Nelly, Cyprus Hill etc etc be on there??
Ciph & Pete, you need to help me out with the old school missing members (Kane etc)……….make it a call in on the morning show if you want…….
Appreciate any help

Peace and greetings,
I made the Paul C. Lives mix-tape, I just finished the final version of the mix which features Prince Po from Organized Konfusion. I felt it was necessary to have him speak on Paul because paul produced their classic demo. Here is the link to my Paul C. mix featuring Prince Po
