YA HEARD! VOL 1
To this day people ask me if I have a copy of this mix. I finally dug it out of the basement for all of you… This mixtape I did in ’98 is by far the item I am most asked about. It was basically the album sampler of Nore’s first solo album N.O.R.E. (niggas on the run eatin) before it came out. This was the era of Big Pun, LOX, Cam’Ron, DMX, and all other tunnel bangers*. Nore pretty much had some kind of feature or guest appearance with all of them and more. Man, I miss this era in new york. This was the best summer with banging joints on the radio. My boy Mayhem that worked at Penalty records at the time had an idea to do more than just put snippets on a cassette for the sampler. He thought of mixing all the hot joints featuring Nore together to make it crazy. This shit blew up in the streets. I was never a big mixtape dude but this definitely got bootlegged in the streets heavy. No cd’s were pressed from the label, but all the bootleggers on 125th street and Jamaica ave had them on cd… thanks guys. Please enjoy.

records that used to rock the legendary tunnel night club to the extreme. ie: the benjamins, get at me dog, put it in your mouth, where i’m from, put your hands where my eyes can see, my mind right, wild out, etc.
The first Cipha Sounds mixtape I ever owned!!! I still have this tape in my collection of classic mixtapes… Incredible shit and one of the reasons why I love NORE’S music till today. This really put me on!

i was fortunate to have an official copy of this tape and later mp3 version of the exclusive tracks “Married to Marijuana”. this was when i have faith in NORE’s rapidly deteriorating, rapping ability….

this is great just for having the o.g. version of “i love my life” with nas on the hook. it’s only a snippet but better than nothing. that freestyle over the love unlimited sample that black rob freaked for i dare you was dope too.
and calm down and married to marijuana getting cut from the war report is still a fuckin travesty to this day…

hey cipha i dont think you realize how far this mixtape reached…people was actually dubbing this like it was a real noreaga album…thats why it popped off soo big….i remember gettin a dub from my dude…this tape bumped more than his nore debut album lol…thats not even a joke…and the fucking pull backs and shit you did on married to marijuana was so crazy….i cant listen to a clean married to marijuana track because im so used to listening to your version with the beat juggle thing and the pull back mixes…insane man phenomenal tape..brought mad memories back

yo JonnySimps what tapes do u have? I have a ton of them somewhere at my parents house.. i’ll try digitise some next time i go back.. ones i can remember are a few of the westwood ny rap exchanges (recorded at marley marl’s?) and also a couple around the dr dre/eminem concert at brixton acad & fabric.. about 2000/1 i think that was.. good times..
